Since the day the Forum of the Adriatic and Ionian Chambers of Commerce was founded in 2001, it has worked to help a process of growth within the basin favouring the economic and social development of the Adriatic-Ionian Area.

This year, with one year of delay due to the Pandemic that afflicted all of us globally, Forum AIC has celebrated its 20th anniversary by bringing its community together once again in Split, a city which, together with Ancona, in 2001, created the first bridge between the two shores of the Adriatic, giving life to our Association.

Twenty-one years have passed since then and today we are a network of 39 chambers of commerce from Slovenia to Greece and from the Italian regions of Friuli Venezia Giulia to Puglia, and as well as the number of its members, it has seen its role grow at European and international level. Since the beginning of the process of recognition of the Adriatic Ionian Area as the third European Macroregion – EUSAIR, after the Baltic and Danube Region, which took place in 2014 on behalf of the European Council, the Forum is considered one of the key actors for its development, together with the other two Fora of Universities and Cities, representing a direct interlocutor with the European Commission, with the EUSAIR Governance and other important international bodies.

The Forum has grown and it has become an inclusive reality: during the celebrations of our 20th Anniversary, we paid tribute to the member Chambers of Commerce and to all the colleagues and friends of the countries of the Adriatic-Ionian Area who have collaborated so promptly during this long amazing journey. During the celebrations, hosted by Forum AIC President Joze Tomas, the Presidents of the Forum were awarded, and Presidents Jadranka Radovanic e Augusto Bocchini, who conceived and founded our association were remembered.

A special mention to our Secretary General Michele De Vita, who has followed the Forum from the very beginning, and the Ambassador Fabio Pigliapoco of the Adriatic Ionian Initiative, who collaborates and supports the three Fora of civil society in the EUSAIR strategy
